It has been announced that the appointment of Chris Grayling as Chair of The Parliamentary Intelligence Committee is actually an ambitious fully immersive art installation intended as an ironic comment on today’s politics.

Artist and barefaced chancer, Gavin Smart, whose completely red canvass entitled “Black” recently sold for $300,000 at Sotheby’s New York sale room told Mariella Frostrup,

“The idea here is to challenge the received wisdom of public opinion and ill-informed perception. Most people see Chris as an incompetent idiot. Well I say just let’s see how he fares in this role. He may surprise everyone. Doubt it though.”

“He will be wearing ten min body-cams recording every aspect of chairmanship and these will be relayed directly to gigantic monitors in Piccadilly Circus for a period of four weeks.”

“So far today he’s ended up in Rome to chair his first session. Unfortunately that’s actually being held in Westminster.”

Smart was coy when pressed about the fee he received for the work but it is rumoured to be in the region of £250,000 and funded by the central government – coded language meaning Dominic Cummings.

A source close to No 10. commented, “This is a stroke of genius by the PM. What with him constantly being exposed daily as an incompetent fool in how he handled the floods and now with this super-lurgy thing.”

“Cheering the public up by giving everyone a much-needed giggle at Chris’s even more hopeless antics is just the thing to get Boris off the hook.”
